Murthy Law Firm’s Involvement with Baltimore Symphony Orchestra

Earlier this week, on Wednesday, June 06, 2007, I was privileged to attend with a small group of women business and community leaders a special event organized at the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO). The event was the idea of Marin Alsop, the new Director of the BSO, who is the first woman to head a major orchestra in the U.S. She is an internationally acclaimed artist who was a MacArthur Fellow, won the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Conductor Award, and she has many other major national and international awards for her brilliance as an artist and as a conductor. Originally from New York, she moved to Denver, Colorado and is now happy to be back on the east coast at the BSO.

The goal of the meeting was to provide opportunities for women leaders to work together to support the arts in Maryland. In addition, Maestro Alsop’s goal is to help at least 75 children each year from Baltimore who cannot afford to buy a musical instrument and for each artist at the BSO to “adopt” an underprivileged child and teach that child a musical instrument of her/his choice by working with a BSO artist. Through my involvement on a leadership level with the United Way, we plan to work together with the BSO, to help make this goal a reality. 

As many of you know, the Murthy Law Firm is a proud supporter of various charitable and community organizations. We are processing the immigration paperwork in the “extraordinary ability” category for an internationally acclaimed artist at the BSO on a “pro bono” basis. It is an opportunity for us to work together with various causes to further worthwhile causes.
